PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project’s overall goal was to create a tiny home within the constraints of the size of a parking space for two clients of our choosing.I responded to the project by creating a space that was designed to be artful and organic, but also provides effective circulation and comfortability for the needs of my client. Beginning with the first floor, my stairs influence the space to create a cozy feeling in the living/guest area of the space. The stairs help to shape each floor and separate space while also being a design element on their own. The kitchen and garden space is a focal point of the space and also serves as a haven for both of my clients as one is a chef and the other works with organic food. This space also has the most amount of natural light and access to the outdoors with two balconies, one providing a garden to grow ingredients. Moving vertically, I have created two half floors for my clients, one providing storage and another being the sleeping space for the clients. Again, the stairs are a design element but also provide space for a more comfortable living experience. I wanted to design a very organic space that provided for direct connection to the outdoors through natural light and outside access while also providing a very tranquil space for my clients to come back to and develop their relationship after a long day of work.

MEXICO CITY

SOFTWARES USED:

  • Vray Rendering

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The restaurant I designed embodies the traditions of Mexico City by displaying traditions and colors of the Day of the Dead, using local materiality for millwork and furniture, and using its shop to sell items from local small businesses. There are two main dining spaces, one that is a more formal setting and then a space for casual dining that is located near the bar. This restaurant is for celebration of Mexican culture and connecting families and friends together. The design of the plan, furniture, and millwork is inspired by transparency and organic shapes which was influenced by my previous artifact which was inspired by the local material onyx, found in Mexico City. The circulation throughout the restaurant is meant to provide discovery for new experiences and surprises through the sequence of programs. The materiality of the space is meant to draw from some of the colors used on the day of the dead, and the materiality draws from materials local to Mexico city. Within the floor plan, the casual and formal sides of the restaurants are separate to provide noise control and also allow the user to choose their own experience.

POLITICS OF HOME

SOFTWARES USED:

  • Illustrator

  • Photoshop

  • Rhino

  • Plaster Mold Modeling

  • 3D Printing

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Why do we fill our home with certain decorations or choose a certain style? My instigator was derived from the comparison of interior conditions in Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere. I compared the character that resides in each condition to the interior and I drew the conclusion that the more personal touches you add to your house, the stronger your sense of identity is. The objects we own directly reflect our experiences and interests. People that display these trinkets around their home are proud of their identity, their interests, and who they are as a person overall. People that focus on the materiality of their space or decorate their house with meaningless things are trying to fit within a social construct and therefore, do not have as strong of a sense of identity. Our homes should reflect who we are, as it is a huge part of our identity.
